How To: Change Bluetooth Device Name – Ubuntu 14.04
Posted on .In this guide, I will show you how to change the Bluetooth device name from the default “ubuntu-0” to your personalized name. This was done on Ubuntu 14.04, however it should also work on older or newer versions of Ubuntu as well as other Debian based distributions.
Open a terminal (CTRL + ALT + T) and run the following:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install -y nano
sudo nano /var/lib/bluetooth/*/config
Update the value for “name”. In my case, it was:
name N3RVE
Press CTRL + X and Y, Enter to Save. Restart the Bluetooth service:
service bluetooth restart
Finally open the Bluetooth application and search from your device to see the change reflected.
You may need to delete and re-pair the devices.
